On July 7, 2026 the Alabama Public Service Commission opened Docket 33709, a generic proceeding reviewing Alabama Power’s large-load data-center contracts. It is open for public comment.
This matters here for a specific reason. Residents have been assured that current ratepayers will not be affected by Project Red Clay. The document that would demonstrate that assurance, the electric-service agreement and the cost-allocation study behind it, has not been made public. Docket 33709 is the state proceeding where that question is actually examined.
A comment from a Lowndes County resident goes onto the state’s record. It does not go onto ours, and it is not a petition. It is a filing in a proceeding, and it is the most direct way an individual here can put the ratepayer question in front of the people who decide it.
You do not need to be an expert. Say where you live, say that a 1,500 megawatt request has been reported in your county, and say that you want the cost allocation made public before it is approved.123
